Where to Go
While there's not much difference between the regions within the Republic and Northern
Cyprus, the overall Turkish and Greek influences of the North and South equal plenty of
variety.
If you are seeking traditional cuisine anywhere in the country, ensure that a healthy per-
centage of the restaurant's customers are locals. For the best seafood and fish, head for the
Akamas Peninsula.
VEGANS &VEGETARIANS
Vegetarianism is slowly gaining attention in Cyprus, particularly in Nicosia (Lefkosia) with its more cosmopolitan
populace. Many tavernas will also have an option for a vegetarian meze and, even if they don't, a traditional meze
typically includes both vegetarian and vegan options. Throughout the island, Middle Eastern mainstays like hum-
mus, falafel and tabouleh are readily available. Most towns also have excellent produce markets where you can
stock up on local fruit and vegies and health food stores are becoming increasingly common, particularly in the Re-
public.
