hills and the shady green mountainous Troödos to trek, cycle, stroll, explore the tavernas
or admire the exquisite Byzantine churches with their vividly colourful friezes and icons.
Stop off at neolithic Choirokoitia as you roll down to Lemesos . Spend a couple of
nights enjoying the varied sights and superb restaurants of the island's second city and
consider taking a walking tour, organised by the tourist office, to acquaint yourself with
the historic centre and main sights. Next day, visit nearby Ancient Kourion , a spectacular
archaeological site, perched on a hillside with sweeping sea views. Then head for the surf
yourself and take a dip at the mythical Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite's Rock & Beach).
On day 11, head to Pafos , with its mosaics, mysterious Tombs of the Kings and plenti-
ful shops, restaurants and bars. Stay overnight and enjoy a long cool cocktail sitting at a
beachfront bar enjoying the people-watching, the sunset and the unabashed summer-in-
the-sun atmosphere of this popular holiday resort. The next day, escape the coastal crowds
and base yourself in traditional agrotourism accommodation on the Akamas Peninsula ,
near some of the loveliest stretches of sand in the South, such as Lara Beach . Fly home
from Larnaka or Pafos.
