Music & Dance
Cypriot music and dance is diverse and reflects Greek, Turkish and Arabic influences. Tra-
ditional music has an enduring appeal as evidenced by the distinctive bouzouki twanging
out from all those open car windows.

Music
Greek Cypriots have tended to follow the musical preferences of mainland Greece. Con-
versely, Cyprus has also produced some of its own musicians who have made successful
careers in Greece as well as in their homeland. Names to look out for include Larnaka nat-
ive Anna Vissi who, in 2014, was voted the best female artist by Cyprus' popular radio sta-
tion, Super FM. Alknoös Ionnides is a young Lefkosian who sings emotional ballads of his
own composition, which occasionally verge on rock and rap. He has attracted big audiences
in venues like the Opera House in Toronto.
