LEMESOS & THE SOUTH
Lemesos (Limassol)
The good news is that there are plenty of hotels in Lemesos. The bad news is that they are
mostly along a 9km tourist strip to the northeast of the old city, and are often crowded and
overpriced. The old city doesn't feature many high-quality establishments, but hotels in this
area are more used to walk-in travellers and are likely to have rooms vacant.
The cheapest hotels are clustered to the east of the castle, while the more luxurious ho-
tels are located at the far northeastern end of the tourist centre.
Metropole
HOTEL
A sound budget option in the heart of the historic centre. This comfortable place has
decent-sized, slightly dimly-lit rooms sporting soothing pale-peach-and-cream decor with
pleasant prints of local scenes on the walls, and balconies made for pint-sized people.
Lordos Hotel Apts
APARTMENTS
These basic, no-nonsense but squeaky-clean apartments with kitchenettes offer good value
for self-caterers. Rooms can veer on the noisy side - light sleepers should ask for one away
from the road. It's a block away from Debenhams department store (an excellent direction-
al landmark) with the historic centre a 2km walk away.
Luxor Guest House
INN
This long-time backpacker haunt is looking rough around the edges these days but manager
Serg is as welcoming as ever. The airy rooms with painted wood-board ceilings and dinky
balconies (all shared bathrooms) brim with creaky, faded glory. If you prefer character over
amenities, and need a cheap sleep, it's still fine for a night.

owner Mr Nikitas during his travels. The 33 apartments and studios here are tastefully dec-
