Considering the illustrious place of shadow theatre in Cyprus' history (it was introduced
in the 16th century by the Turks), it's a surprise that this is the only place of its kind on the
island. Shadow puppet plays take place on the 1st floor of the Büyük Han on Saturday at
11am in a tiny theatre with around 50 seats.
Puppeteer Mehmet Ertuğ laments the fact that he has so far found no successor, so
don't miss an opportunity to see a show - kids
and
adults.
Büyük Hammam

The Büyük Hammam baths are entered via a low ornate door, sunk 2m below street level.
The door was originally part of the 14th-century Church of St George of the Latins. These
days you can, more happily, choose from a choice of treatments, including mud baths,
coffee-peeling and aromatherapy massage. Sessions are either for men, women or mixed.
Wednesday and Saturday morning are for women only.
Inside is a nail that marks the height reached by the waters of the Pedieos River (Kanlı
Dere), drowning about 3000 Lefkosians in 1330.

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Formula 1 whiz, seek out this place which has a large
and very professional-looking series of circuits. You can rent carts from 25TL for 10
minutes on the junior 300m course, 35TL for the medium 900m course, or 45TL on the
1200m professional circuit. Unwind in the Z1 Bar or Z1 Cafeteria.
Zet Karting is located on the road going north out of North Nicosia. At the roundabout,
take the turn-off to Morfou (Güzelyurt); it's on the left, after the Alaykoy turn-off, around
13km from the Kyrenia Gate.
