Academy 32
LIVE MUSIC
Housed in the basement of the Cyprus Academy of Music (the owner is the Academy's
artistic director) this is, unsurprisingly, one of the best places in town to hear live music
with an emphasis on jazz, classical and world music. There is also an art gallery, along
with fine wines and light eats.
K-Cineplex
CINEMA
Located 2.5km out of the city in Strovolos, K-Cineplex shows all the latest movie releases
on six screens and offers ample parking, a cafeteria and high-tech sight-and-sound sys-
tems.
Theatre & Live Music
There is a thriving local theatre scene in Nicosia; however, plays performed are almost al-
ways in Greek. If this doesn't deter you, check at the tourist office for any performances
that may be taking place. Unfortunately, the former main venue, the Lefkosia Municipal
Theatre, has closed down indefinitely after a serious fire in 2008.
The best way to get to see and hear some traditional music is to head for any of the res-
taurants offering live music in Laïki Yitonia and Ledra St in the Old City. Otherwise keep
your eyes peeled for posters over the summer advertising visiting musicians from Greece.

with libraries that offer a wide range of periodicals and topics for reference. They are generally open 9am to 7pm
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9am to 1pm Wednesday.
