In-Depth Information
Protaras BEACH
The main beach in Protaras has soft golden sand, a series of shallow rocky coves and a
walkway backed by the green lawns of the resort hotels. Fully equipped, it's perfect for
sunbathing and swimming, and a multitude of water sports are available.
Fig Tree Bay BEACH
At the southern end of the Protaras main beach, Fig Tree Bay is very popular. It has a
small sand island just off the coast, which is great for snorkelling with lots of fish to be
seen. There are hotels and restaurants aplenty, so it's a great spot to eat, swim, drink and
relax.
5 Eating
Most restaurants are on the main strip.
Kyklos Restaurant CYPRIOT
(Protaras Ave; mains from €12; h 11am-11pm)
Offers well-cooked, authentic food, like slow-baked meze (a standout item is lamb souvla
tenderised with garlic and lemon). It's located at the southern end of Protaras' main street.
Nikolas Tavern CYPRIOT
(Fig Tree Bay, Protaras; mains from €11; h 11.30am-11pm)
Well-priced, consistently good Cypriot favourites with friendly service to boot. Try the
stifado or kleftiko (oven-baked lamb) with one of the local wines.
Pernera
Just a couple of strides north of Protaras, Pernera is another coastal resort perfect for a
peaceful getaway. It's so close to Protaras that the two towns have basically merged into
one. This beach-bum haven is all about its beautiful sandy shores and pocket-sized bays.
The town itself has a couple of really good restaurants, and shops dedicated to water
sports.
