Makarios Cultural Centre MUSEUM
(admission €0.50; h 9am-1pm & 2-5pm)
This museum is a place for hard-core fans only, containing memorabilia from Makarios'
life as a politician and priest, including plenty of photos. Housed in just one room, the ex-
hibits include his overcoat, slippers and dressing gown (from the famous London depart-
ment store Selfridges).
Childhood House of Makarios NOTABLE BUILDING
( h 10am-1pm & 2-6pm) F
A considerable sized building, considering his family's peasant status, the childhood
house of Makarios contains more photos and memorabilia from his younger years. If the
house is locked, you can obtain the key from the nearby cultural centre.
Cedar Valley
This cool valley is the highlight of the western Troödos hinterland, home to a large num-
ber of the unusual indigenous Cypriot cedar ( Cedrus brevifolia ) , a close cousin of the
better-known Lebanese cedar. The valley is approached via a winding, unsealed forest
road from Pano Panagia on the Pafos side of the Troödos Mountains, or along a signpos-
ted unsealed road from the Kykkos Monastery side of the Troödos. There is a picnic
ground here and the opportunity to hike 2.5km to the summit of Mt Tripylos .
