Kampos
Pop 430
Few tourists make it to Kampos, the only substantial habitation in Tylliria. The scenery is
beautiful and the locals may stare; they don't get to see many foreigners in these parts.
Although technically part of the Kykkos Monastery sector of the Troƶdos, Kampos is
stuck out on the southern edge of the Tyllirian wilderness with - these days - only one
road out. The road that leads north from the village now comes to an ignominious end
after 12km, at the Green Line.
However, this part of Tylliria is now less isolated than it was, thanks to the completion
of the good sealed road that leads across the Tyllirian hinterland and northern extent of the
vast Pafos Forest, linking the Kykkos Monastery with Kato Pyrgos and Pahyammos. Take
it slowly, though; the road, while good, is very winding and tiring to drive. Most maps
still show it as unsealed. It's a much shorter, if more challenging, route into the Tyllirian
region than the traditional road from the southeast, via Polis.
