In-Depth Information
TYLLIRIA
If you love untouched, tranquil nature, head for Tylliria. It's a sparsely populated, forested
territory with a few desultory beach resorts nestling between Chrysohou and Morfou Bays.
Enjoying its wilderness, even if just for a few days, is highly recommended.
The only public transport in this area is the bus connecting Pomos with Polis.
Pomos
Pop 570
The trip up the coastal road from Polis towards Tylliria becomes gradually more scenic but
doesn't really unfold in all its glory until beyond Pomos, which is the first village you
come to (at 19km). This is a lush agricultural area with olive trees, citrus groves and vines,
and precious little development.

with its two large galleries of animals and birds endemic to the island, as well as a modest
display of rocks and minerals. While taxidermists may not be impressed with some of the
mildly moth-eaten exhibits, the comprehensive display includes some surprises, such as
pelicans, a mouflon, the large Caretta turtle and a prehistoric-looking gyps fulvos vulture -
all native to Cyprus.
Don't miss the photo of the skeleton of a hippopotamus found in caves in the Akrotiri
area, along with skeletons of the pygmy elephant, both dating back to neolithic times.
