Situated at 1100m in a cool valley, Agros ( www.agros.org.cy ) is well placed for hiking
and driving forays into the surrounding hills. Renowned in the region for its locally made
rose products, including rosewater and Cypriot delight, it also specialises in preserved
fruit and traditional Cypriot meats like loukanika (spiced sausages) and lountza (smoked
pork fillet). As such, most of the activity centres on its traditional warehouses and work-
shops.

Venus Rose TRADITIONAL WORKSHOP

At this rose-product store you can check out the workshop for a glimpse of the many ways
roses can be used. Great examples include flower water, skin cleanser, candles, rose li-
queur and rose oil - one of the most sought after beauty ingredients in the world. This is
an excellent place for gifts. If you happen to be visiting in May, you can volunteer to help
collect the rose petals.
Niki's Sweets TRADITIONAL WORKSHOP
( www.nikisweets.com.cy ; Anapafseos 5; preserves €3-5; h 9am-6pm)
Selling her products all over Cyprus, and exporting as far as Australia, Niki makes
marmalades, fig preserves and walnut sweets. Many of her preserves offer natural sooth-
ing and healing properties. You can also purchase carob syrup here, a natural treatment for
osteoporosis.
Kafkalia Sausages TRADITIONAL WORKSHOP

Some of the tastiest Cypriot meat products, including lountza, hiromeri (traditional
smoked ham), loukanika and pastourmas (spicy smoked beef), are made fresh on the
premises. Check out the smoke room next to the store.
8 Getting There & Away
Emel ( % 7777 8121; www.limassolbuses.com ; one way/all day & return €1.50/3/5) buses run from Agros to
Lemesos five times daily from 5.25am to 2.40pm weekdays, three times on Saturday and
twice on Sunday.
