of grapevines and fig and plane trees. Feast on dishes such as crispy roast duck in apricot

Two Friends prides itself on its homemade cuisine. Everything is made from scratch, in-
cluding the cheese ravioli, filled with fresh cheese and mint, and the tahini dip with
freshly ground sesame seeds, garlic and olive oil. It's located on the main road to the
beach, just outside the village.

Down at Pissouri beach, the best place to eat is in this old carob mill. The restaurant is
famous for its homemade curries and elaborate meze spreads. Reservations recommended.
Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite's Rock & Beach)
Possibly the most famous beach in Cyprus, Aphrodite's Beach is distinctive for its two up-
right rocks, which are easy to spot, particularly as swimmers are generally perched some-
what precariously on top of them. To get here, take the old B6 road from Lemesos to Pa-
fos (a recommended scenic journey).
The reason the spot is called the Rock of Aphrodite in English is because legend has it
that Aphrodite, ancient patron goddess of Cyprus, emerged from the sea at this point in a
surge of sea foam before, no doubt, going off to entertain some lovers. The same thing is
claimed by the residents of Kythira island in Greece. But who's to say she didn't do it in
two places? She was a goddess, after all.
