Ancient Kourion takes a good two to three hours, so you may want to save this for another day. Get an inkling of
what's to come by checking out the remains of the 6th-century port basilica backing Kourion Beach.
Next, double back towards Lemesos on the B6 and take the Erimi E601 exit heading north towards Omodos,
passing a dam to the east. Follow the signs to

Vouni
and have a stroll around this pretty town, pausing for
lunch at Takis, part of the CTO's Vakhis scheme, which supports traditional Cypriot cuisine. Continue north for
5km and swing by the

Ayia Mavri Winery
(

), with an excellent cabernet sauvignon and a
sweet muscatel that has won the prestigious French Moscats du Monde award four times. The village is also
home to Cyprus' leading producer of organic wines, Gaia Oinotechniki, which offers weekday tastings.
Around 2km after this hiccup of a detour, turn towards

Silikou
and

Lofou
; the road passes through dra-
matic mountain scenery and terraced agriculture with distant sea views. Wander the streets of Lofou, its cobbled
lanes bordered by traditional warm limestone buildings. The village is also home to three more Vakhis restaur-
ants.
The next stop is lovely

Laneia
, arguably the prettiest village in these parts. Enjoy a Cypriot coffee in the
leafy courtyard of Kapudia restaurant (next to the car park) and have a leisurely stroll through the cobbled back-
streets before returning to Lemesos on the speedy, well-signposted B8.
Pissouri Bay & Village
Pissouri Bay resort, 10km west of Avdimou, has jet skis, surfing, banana rides and other
entertaining sea activities. It's a popular spot for visitors with plenty of holiday villas in
the surrounding area as well as a couple of luxury resorts. Despite the holiday overtones
(and the fact that Pissouri is a free wi-fi zone) the original village still has some authentic
corners but most people come here simply for the beach and all the facilities it offers.
