In-Depth Information
This renovated, albeit modest, zoo has an aviary, ostriches and some cheeky cheetahs. The
zoo is within Lemesos' leafy Municipal Gardens, 1.5km from the central old district walk-
ing along seafront Christodoulou Hatzipavlou.
Natural Sea Sponge Exhibition Centre MUSEUM
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Agias Theklis; h 9am-7pm Mon-Fri, to 3pm Sat)
Sponges have a life of their own and the cartoon here, duly dedicated to a talking sponge,
will amuse younger kids. The exhibition goes through the process of sea-sponge harvest-
ing, and how the living creatures become the soft things we use in our baths. Naturally
enough, you can purchase sponges here too.

CYPRIOT FOLK ART
Folk Art Museum MUSEUM
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Agiou Andreou 123; admission €2; h 9am-2.30pm Mon-Fri)
Although small, this museum hosts beautifully put together ethnographical displays of traditional costumes and
agricultural implements as well as some stunning examples of tornaretto embroidery (a traditional style of silk
needlework) and other textiles. The museum is set in a finely restored stone house that showcases the typical ar-
chitecture of old Lemesos.
T Tours & Activities
The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) organises three weekly walking tours in
Lemesos.
Most of the dive sites just offshore are perfect for beginners, including Marina Wall (a
favoured night diving spot) and Julie Reef (where you'll usually be surrounded by shoals
of barracuda and sea bream). For more experienced divers the major site is exploring the
Diana wreck with its plethora of sea life in residence.
Cyprus Tourism Organisation WALKING TOUR
(CTO)
There are three walking tours in Lemesos, all organised by the Cyprus Tourism Organisa-
tion (CTO). They're free, but it's wise to book in the high season.
The Historic Limassol Walk, at 10am on Monday, takes you around Lemesos' historic
centre, monuments, markets and main sights.
