lamps, as well as curiously modern-looking glass bottles and vials. Although it pales in
comparison to Nicosia's Cyprus Museum, it's well worth a browse.
Cyprus Wine Museum
MUSEUM
Just west of town, off the Lemesos-Pafos highway, the Cyprus Wine Museum offers an
insight into the history of Cypriot winemaking. There are three tour options for visitors
with the difference in price essentially relating to whether you want to do a wine tasting
after viewing the winemaking exhibits. The museum displays include medieval drinking
vessels and jars, as well as explanatory information on all aspects of winemaking. There's
also a short audio-visual presentation.
Grand Mosque
MOSQUE
At the heart of the old Turkish quarter, the Grand Mosque is surrounded by palms almost
as tall as its minaret. It is used by the remaining Turkish Cypriot population and Muslims
from the Middle East who live in Lemesos. As with any mosque, visitors are requested to
dress conservatively; leave shoes by the door and avoid visiting at prayer times. There are
no fixed opening hours; if the gate is open, step within and take a look.
Hammam
STEAM BATHS
This tiny hammam isn't really a tourist site, since many count on privacy when going in
for a steam bath. If you do decide to indulge, don't come here expecting anything too lux-
urious; it's a very basic place where people go to relax. Keep in mind that all sessions are
mixed. Also on offer are full-body massages, shiatsu, Swedish massage, Indian head mas-
sage and anti-stress massages from €20.
