get smoother tones if you hold the pencil on its side rather than coloring
with the tip. Fill in the nose and eyes with the 2B pencil. Leave the eye
highlights as white paper.
LIFTING WITH AN ERASER
When using an eraser to lift lines out of your drawing, don't forget to brush away the
eraser crumbs with a horsehair drafting brush, rather than using your hand. This will
prevent streaks and smudges.
3 Add Form
Blend the eyes and nose with a tortillion. Lift out more highlights with the eraser. Be-
gin adding form with shading, using the 2B pencil. Blend with the tortillion. Add a
shadow under the puppy, still using the 2B pencil.
