Foal
I find horses and foals (baby horses) somewhat difficult to draw. The basic
shapes of a foal are primarily based on cylinders. Pay particular attention to
the placement of the joints in the legs. If necessary, measure the length of
each leg segment with a ruler. Notice that the back legs have different
measurements than the front legs.
Getting the Proportions Right
It is always a challenge to get correct proportions, whether you are drawing
animals or people. The relationship of the head to the body is important,
and it's easy to get it wrong.
One way to achieve correct proportions is to measure by “heads.” Meas-
ure the size of the head and use that measurement to compare the size of the
rest of the body. For example, the average adult human is eight heads tall.
