In-Depth Information
2 Rub the pigment from the tip of the swab onto your drawing. This cre-
ates a softer smudge of color as compared to using pencil directly.
taking good reference photos
The challenge of drawing from life is that baby animals don't often stay
still unless they are asleep. I like to do quick gesture drawings in my
sketchbook, because that helps me understand the way the animal moves,
but for finished drawings I rely on photographs.
USE PHOTOCOPIES TO SEE VALUES
If you have a hard time seeing the variations in tone and values in a color photogrdf-
daph, try photocopying it to create a black-and-white reference. The values of light,
medium and dark will become readily apparent because you won't be distracted by
color.
