Diet Determines Beak Shape
The cardinal is a seed-eater. The wren prefers insects. Hummingbirds have long
beaks for dipping into flowers.
Sketching
It is very useful to keep a sketchbook of the birds you see. It doesn't matter
what your skill level is; a sketch is valuable because it teaches you to really
see the bird's behavior and poses. Because birds move so quickly, you will
probably create quick gesture sketches rather than tight drawings. If you
like any of the sketches, you can go back and add more details later.
