Sleeping Kittens
If you want to try sketching from life, rather than from a photograph, you
may want to wait until those little bundles of energy fall asleep. That is the
only time they will be still enough for more than a quick gesture drawing!
This sketch was done very quickly with a charcoal pencil.

Drawing white animals is always a challenge because you don't want them
to end up looking dirty by adding too much shading. I added some tone to
the background of this drawing so the white hairs could be lifted by “draw-
ing” them with an eraser. I used a pastel pencil for the tone because it gives
a smoother result, whereas charcoal can leave streaks.
