Drinking & Nightlife
They may have a strong work ethic, but that doesn't stop
tripeiros
from partying - the city
has a club scene that is at once sophisticated and largely devoid of elitism. Porto also
boasts a rich theatre and music scene. To keep pace pick up

Ribeira
Vinologia
(Rua de São João 46; 4pm-midnight)
This cosy wine bar is an excellent place to sample the fine
quaffs of Porto, with over 200 different ports on offer. If you fall in love with a certain
wine, you can usually buy a whole bottle (or even send a case home).
WINE BAR
Café Bar O Cais
(Rua Fonte Taurina 2a; 9pm-3am daily)
A loyal clientele crowds this funky, classic-rock-
drenched basement bar with old stone walls and vinyl booths.
BAR
Sahara
LOUNGE
(Caís da Estiva 4; 6pm-2am Mon-Thu, 11am-2am Fri-Sun)
Decked out like an Arabian hideaway,
this loungey place has hookahs in its nooks and crannies, a young garrulous crowd, the
occasional belly dancer and pavement seating for taking in the passing people parade.
City Centre
Nightlife rules in central Porto with some eclectic bar-gallery spaces leading the way. It's
worth exploring the narrow cobblestone streets just north of Rua das Carmelitas, which
become an all-out street party (especially Rua Galeria de Paris, Cândido dos Reis and
Conde de Vizela) on warm summer nights and on weekends throughout the year. Nearby,
there is also a lively (downmarket) scene at open-air cafe-restaurants on Praça de Parada
Lentão, around the corner from the Jardim da Cordoaria.
