Come for tasty, filling and cheap
meals, or for the famous pork sandwiches, served all day. Space is tight and this no-frills

little terrace on the square.

Mercado do Bolhão
MARKET
€
(Rua Formosa; 7am-5pm Mon-Fri, to 1pm Sat)
Just east of Aliados lies the 19th-century, wrought-
iron Mercado do Bolhão, where earthy vendors sell fresh produce, including cheeses,
olives, smoked meats, fresh flowers and more.
O Buraco
PORTUGUESE
€
(Rua do Bolhão 95; mains €5-7; lunch & dinner Mon-Sat)
As old school as old school gets, this long-
standing restaurant on the ground floor of an unassuming office building seems frozen in
time, with its polished wood interiors and chequered tablecloths. It draws in a mix of
neighbourhood locals and architects for its big cheap portions of simple fish and meat
dishes.
Casa Santo António
(Rua S Bento da Vitória 80; snacks €1-5; lunch & dinner Tue-Sat)
Behind the blue door of this tradi-
tional hole-in-the-wall, you can fill up on simple but deliciously prepared
petiscos
. If you
find a spot, that is (it gets very busy in the evenings). Their new location on Rua da
Fábrica is a more contemporary clean-lined version of the original, serving small bites
from 4pm till 2am.
