maintained Domus is a family-run place in a quiet pedestrian shopping zone near Coimbra
A train station. There are some nice old features and furnishings and friendly manage-
ment. The best rooms are the front-facing ones upstairs, which get plenty of natural light.

( 239 108 212; www.grandehostelcoimbra.com ; Rua Antero de Quental 196; dm/d €18/40; ) You won't
find a hostel more laid-back than this - in fact, service may be too lax for some - but it's
hard to beat the location in a grand, century-old town house with views near the nightlife
of Coimbra's university campus. Rooms can get hot in summer, but there's a garden area
to wind down in.

fortable, reliable hotel near the Coimbra A station has well-maintained rooms, a free gar-
age with complimentary valet parking, satellite TV, double-paned windows and a popular
5th-floor bar with views up to the university. Recently remodelled 'superior' rooms have
larger bathrooms, flatscreen TVs and balconies for not much of an extra investment. The
