novel: for those who believe 'slow is beautiful' this might be your kind of travel - cover-
ing 10km to 15km per day on foot with nothing but you, your walking legs, stunning
nature and your, err, burro (donkey) which carries your luggage. This company coordin-
ates your trip - generally from two days to two weeks - including accommodation, food
and optional guides (who speak German, English, French and Spanish). Prices depend on
a number of factors, including the standard of accommodation you opt for, but allow
around €90 per person per day for the donkey, €100 per person per day for the guide, and
€20 to €65 per day for accommodation. Food is extra again. You can choose to 'go it
alone' without a guide, in which case the added fun is to tend to the donkey (there are
strict rules to follow regarding its care). Children can enjoy some shorter rides (a 1½-hour
ride costs €30). Burro e Artes is located 4km northeast of Aljezur; ring for directions.

Praia de Monte Clérigo , about 8km northwest. Praia de Amoreira , 6km away, is a wonderful
beach where the river meets the sea. More difficult to reach but worth the effort getting
