Having said that, views from the top terrace are superb, and it must be one of the few
(if only) places in town with a rooftop pool. And it doesn't get more central than this -
bang on the main plaza.

motel-style rooms that are simple, neat and comfortable. Some have tiny verandahs.
Prices are considerably less than stated outside high season.
Vila Galé Lagos

all the creature comforts for resort-loving visitors and business clients. Everything seems
to come in multiples - pools, restaurants, activities and zeros (as in the price - but promo-
tions are available).

Albergaria Marina Rio

Overlooking the harbour, this hotel has comfortable rooms with contemporary decor and
balconies. On the downside, it faces the road and backs onto the bus station. Most rooms
are twins. There's a tiny pool and roof terrace.

Eating
Lagos has some great dining spots, serving both Portuguese and international cuisine.
Budget travellers should focus their attentions on lunchtime pratos do dia (daily specials)
, which often cost around €7. Many excellent cafes are dotted around town. A daily fish
market sells its catch.
For self-caterers, there is a small but accessible supermarket (Av dos Descobrimentos 2;
8am-9pm) .

here since 1906!) still bakes the freshest goods in the Algarve. Great for early risers or
party-goers who've seen the sun rise.
