A welcome addition to Faro's budget scene, this place has all the elements of today's
sophisticated hostel: it's funky, laid-back and cool. Housed in a renovated mansion, Casa
d'Alagoa boasts a range of spacious dorms, a great communal area, and an upstairs ter-
race. There are electrical outlets at each bunk to charge your mobile and laptop, and a
communal kitchen for all to use...but hey, why do you need it when dinner is on offer for
€5?

Truly one of the last of the older -style, rambling Portuguese guesthouses, this place has a
charismatic owner, plus pot plants, plastic flowers, African masks and museum-style
paraphernalia. The best of the 18 rooms have antique furniture, high ceilings and wrought-
iron balconies. Smaller, tile-floored rooms are in the back.
