Comedy Clubs
The city's once-thriving live
comedy scene spawned the
famous comedian and movie
actor Robin Williams, among
many other talents. While the
comedy scene has been cut
back considerably, there is
usually something happening
somewhere in the city every
night of the week at a bar or
café. Check local newspapers
for listings
(see p275)
.
Some of the best shows take
place at
Tommy T's Comedy
House
, with such regular artists
as Bobby Slayton, Will Durst,
and delicious Ethiopian fare
seven nights a week.
Harry
Denton's Starlight Room
has
nightly live music in a classy
setting on the 21st floor at the
Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Just off
Market Street,
Martuni's
offers
stiff martinis and classic sing-
alongs for a diverse crowd. Last
but not least is the
Tonga Room
in the lower level of the
Fairmont Hotel
(see p215)
.
In this elaborate Polynesian-
style cocktail bar you can
dance or just listen to jazz -
interrupted every half hour
by a simulated rainstorm.

Our
Little Comedy Club
is an
intimate space in Union Square
where you can see great
comedy talent.
Shows usually start at 8pm,
with late-night performances at
weekends beginning at around
10pm. Most venues cost around
$15 and can operate a one- or
two-drink minimum policy.
