residues, heavy metal residues, muddy moldy flavor, etc. by the United States, EU, and
Japan played havoc in Indian seafood industry. Even though TQM of Japan aimed total
quality management, it failed to ensure both safety and quality, probably due to certain
lacunae like calibration, good laboratory practice, good personnel policy, etc. There were
several attempts to improve the TQM concept of Japan to make it suitable to tackle all
problems of safety and quality of a given product.
