received adequate amounts of N and P (Figure 6.7). The root system was also adversely affected in
the absence of N, P, and K fertilization. Figure 6.8 shows that root growth increased with increas-
ing K fertilization. Fageria (1984, 1989) and Fageria and Baligar (1997) presented similar results
in relation to N, P, and K deficiency symptoms, as well as root and shoot growth of rice grown on
Brazilian Oxisol.
