Paestum
Despite the fact that most people visit Paestum for one day visit, there is a surprising num-
ber of hotels here. Aside from the inevitable modern three-star hotels geared towards
coach tours, there are some excellent options.
HOTEL
Hotel Calypso €€

breakfast; ) This is a top choice for artistically or alternatively inclined folk, with
a macrobiotic restaurant (member of the Slow Food Movement) and large tastefully dec-
orated rooms with private balconies and some choice handcrafted decor pieces. Owner
Roberto (who made some of the lamps) is a world traveller who can also advise on the
local area. Concerts are regularly staged here during summer, ranging from folk to classic-
al, and a sandy beach is a short stroll away. Rooms without TV are available for guests
concerned about electro magnetic fields.

breakfast; ) A 19th-century former farmhouse, this charming stone-clad
B&B is run by the delightful Voza family, who will happily ply you with their home-made
wine and limoncello . Located 2.5km from Paestum and surrounded by vineyards and olive
and mulberry trees, the views are stunning, particularly from the swimming pool.

2-person cabins per week €350-450; ) Paestum has numerous campsites but this is
where you should hammer in those tent pegs. Set in a mature landscaped area with lofty
pines, facilities include a restaurant, pizzeria, mini market, football pitch, private beach
and children's playground. The cabins are simply furnished but have all the essentials.
