Salerno
The little accommodation that Salerno offers is fairly uninspiring, although, conveniently,
there are several reasonable hotels in the town centre. Prices tend to be considerably lower
than on the Amalfi Coast.

Within walking distance of just about anywhere worth
going to, the Montestella is on Salerno's main pedestrian thoroughfare, halfway between
the
centro storico
and train station. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with blue car-
peting and regency-style wallpaper, while the public spaces have a fresh modern look. This
hotel is by far the best midrange option in town. There is a handy underground car park a
couple of blocks away (€25 for 24 hours).

Located above an excellent restaurant, the rooms here are compact and com-
fortable with dark-wood furniture and terraces overlooking the atmospheric piazza.

Housed in a 16th-century convent, Salerno's HI hostel is right in the heart of the
centro
storico
. Inside there's a charming central courtyard and a range of bright rooms, from
dorms to doubles with private bathroom. The 2am curfew is for dorms only.
