There is no shortage of satisfying accommodation in Naples and the surrounding region, al-
though the latter and, in particular, the Amalfi Coast and Bay of Naples' islands of Ischia,
Capri and Procida, tend towards the high end of the market and are generally seasonal.
In the crumbling historic city of Naples, you can sleep under frescoes in a 16th-century
palazzo (large building), kick back in a converted candle-lit convent, or share the home of
local artists and intellectuals.
Finding somewhere to stay on the high-profile islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida and
Amalfi Coast resorts can be more problematic in high season due to the sheer number of
visitors, and it is strongly advisable to book ahead as far as possible.
Agriturismi (farm stay accommodation) are increasingly opening up inland from the
Costiera Amalfiatana and still more in the Cilento region, particularly in and around the na-
tional park. This can be an option to seriously consider if you prefer to holiday away from
camera-wielding tourists and stay in a rural environment, with the possibility of activities
