Getting There & Away
Boat
Metrò del Mare ( 199 60 07 00; www.metrodelmare.com ; Jun-Sep) operates regu-
lar ferries to/from Naples (€20, 2½ hours, one daily), Sorrento (€15, one hour, one daily),
Amalfi (€8.50, 20 minutes, two daily) and Positano (€11, 50 minutes, two daily).
Linee Marittime Partenopee ( 081 704 19 11; www.consorziolmp.it ; Via
Guglielmo Melisurgo 4, Naples) runs a daily hydrofoil to/from Capri (€22, 50 minutes)
Alicost ( 089 87 14 83; www.alicost.it ; Salita Sopramuro 2, Amalfi) runs several
daily hydrofoils to/from Capri (€20.50, 50 minutes), Amalfi (€7, 20 minutes) and Positano
(€11, 30 minutes)
Departures are from the Porto Turistico, 200m down the pier from Piazza della Concor-
dia. You can buy tickets from the booths by the embarkation point.
Bus
SITA ( 199 73 07 49; www.sitabus.it ) buses for Amalfi depart at least hourly from
Piazza Vittorio Veneto, beside the train station, stopping en route at Vietri sul Mare,
Cetara, Maiori and Minori. For Pompeii, take CSTP ( 089 48 70 01; www.cstp.it ) bus
50 from Piazza Vittorio Veneto. There are 15 daily departures. For the south coast and
Paestum, take the hourly bus 34 from the CSTP stop on Piazza della Concordia.
Car
Salerno is on the A3 between Naples and Reggio di Calabria; the A3 is toll-free from
Salerno south. Take the Salerno exit and follow signs to the centro (city centre). If you
want to hire a car, there's a Europcar ( 089 258 07 75; www.europcar.com ; Via
Giacinto Vicinanza) agency not far from the train station.
Parking
Salerno has a reasonable number of car parks. Follow the distinctive blue P sign as you
approach the centre of the city. The most convenient car park for the centro storico is on
Piazza Amendola. Near the train station (and tourist office) other convenient locations are
the large car parks on Piazza della Concordia and the adjacent Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini.
You can expect to pay around €1.50 an hour for Salerno car parks.
