)

rento.
»
Flavia Gioia
( 089 81 30 77; Via Cristoforo Colombo 49)
These local buses follow
the lower ring road every half-hour. Stops are clearly marked and you can buy your ticket
(€1.20) on board. The Flavia Gioia buses pass by both SITA bus stops. There are also 17
daily buses up to Montepertuso and Nocelle.
Car & Motorcycle
By car, take the A3 autostrada to Vietri sul Mare and then follow the SS163 coastal road.
To hire a scooter, try
Positano Rent a Scooter
( 089 812 20 77; Viale Pasitea 99; per
day from €50)
. Don't forget that you will need to produce a driving licence and passport.
Parking
Parking here is no fun in summer. There are some blue zone parking areas (€3 per hour)
and a handful of expensive private car parks.
Parcheggio da Anna
(Viale Pasitea 173; per
day €18) is located just before the Pensione Maria Luisa, at the top of town. Nearer the
beach and town centre,
Di Gennaro
(Via Pasitea 1; per day €23) is near the bottom of Via
Cristoforo Colombo.
Praiano
POP 1900
An ancient fishing village, a low-key summer resort and, increasingly, a popular centre for
the arts, Praiano is a delight. With no centre as such, its whitewashed houses pepper the
verdant ridge of Monte Sant'Angelo as it slopes towards Capo Sottile. Formerly an im-
portant silk-production centre, it was a favourite of the Amalfi doges (dukes), who made it
their summer residence.
Sights & Activities
Praiano is 120m above sea level, and exploring involves lots of steps. There are also sev-
eral trails that start from town, including a scenic walk - particularly stunning at sunset -
that leaves from beside the San Gennaro church due west descending to the
Spiaggia
della Gavitelli
beach (via 300 steps!), carrying on to the medieval defensive Torre di
Grado.
