CONCERTS
Sorrento Festival
World-class classical concerts are held in the cloisters of the Chiesa di San Francesco
between July and September. Ask at the tourist office.
Sant'Antonino
The city's patron saint, Sant'Antonino, is remembered annually with processions and huge
markets. The saint is credited with having saved Sorrento during WWII when Salerno and
Naples were heavily bombed; 14 February.
SAINT'S DAY
Settimana Santa
(Holy Week) Famed throughout Italy; the first procession takes place at midnight on the
Thursday preceding Good Friday, with robed and hooded penitents in white; the second
occurs on Good Friday, when participants wear black robes and hoods to commemorate
the death of Christ.
EASTER WEEK
Sagra della Salsiccia e Ceppone
Sausage lovers can salivate at this annual festival, held on December 13, when hundreds
of kilos of sausages are barbecued over a giant bonfire, accompanied by hearty local wine.
FOOD FESTIVAL
Eating
The centre of town is heaving with bars, cafes, trattorias, restaurants and even the odd ke-
bab takeaway shop. Many of these, particularly those with waistcoated waiters stationed
outside (or the ones displaying sun-bleached photos of the dishes) are unashamed tourist
traps serving bland food at inflated prices. But this isn't true of all of them and it's per-
