( 081 837 83 64; Via Sella Orta; meals €20; Fri-Wed, dinner only Jun-Sep) Look
hard for the faint sign; this place is a well-kept secret. Step inside the front door and you
land squarely in what resembles a traditional sitting room, the only hint that this is a res-
taurant are the tantalising aromas and the distant tinkle of glasses. The food changes daily,
according to whatever is fresh from the garden or market.
Some tables are outside amid lemon trees, while other seating is spread throughout a
couple of more homey rooms, decorated with antiques, family pics and a fireplace.

Time to pop the question, celebrate that anniversary or quell those pre-departure blues?
The terrace here has stunning views over the pine trees to the sea and beyond, to the ex-
traordinary Faraglioni di Capri rocks. Seafood is the speciality, particularly the salt baked
fish. Other good choices include octopus salad and linguini with saffron and mussels.
Dress to impress: it's that kind of place.

( 081 837 05 84; Via Longano 27; meals from €30; Apr-Oct) Two minutes' walk
from La Piazzeta down a narrow alley, you can expect a queue here. A real old timer, dat-
ing from 1937, Al Grottino was a renowned VIP dining spot in the '50s and '60s (check
out the photos in the window - hang on - how did Jerry Springer wind up here!).
It continues to lure locals and visitors with traditional Neapolitan dishes like ravioli al
ragú (ravioli in a meat and garlic sauce) and specials like cocotte (handmade pasta with
mixed seafood served in a paella-like pan). The small dining space is reassuringly tradi-
tional, right down to the decorative chianti bottles.
