( 393 3641664; www.largobaracche.org ; Piazza Baracche; by appointment;
Toledo) From ancient ruin to WWII air-raid shelter to subterranean art gallery, under-
ground Largo Baracche was set up to support young, talented, emerging local artists.
Check the website for upcoming exhibitions, and don't forget to ask the guys to turn off
the lights - it's the only way you'll catch the glow-in-the-dark murals by Neapolitan street
artists cyop&kaf ( www.cyopekaf.org ) .
SANTA LUCIA & CHIAIA
At its southern end, Via Toledo spills into lavish Santa Lucia, whose grandiose residents
include the sweeping Piazza del Plebiscito, art-lined Palazzo Reale, the velvety Teatro San
Carlo and, further east, one-time Angevin stronghold Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino).
Directly south of Castel Nuovo, ferries for Capri, Ischia, Procida and Sorrento dock at
Molo Beverello, while further southwest diners seated at candlelit tables tuck into seafood
at harbourside Borgo Marinaro.
Soaring above Via Santa Lucia is Monte Echia and the Pizzofalcone district, inhabited
since the 7th century BC and a little-known warren of dark streets, macabre votive shrines
and knockout views.
Further west, Chiaia is Naples' epicentre of 'posh', home to fashion-obsessed Via Ca-
labritto, former Rothschild address Villa Pignatelli and the city's chicest bars.
