On the slopes of Mt Olympos, witness the eternal flame of the Chimaera : dozens of nat-
urally occurring flames, which are clearly visible from the sea at night. It's easy to see
why ancient peoples attributed these extraordinary flames to the breath of a monster. More
prosaically, nearby Çıralı is a beach haven for families and anyone who wants to relax,
while ancient Olympos was a major, fire-worshipping Lycian city.

In the heart of the blissful Teke peninsula, this low-key harbour town is activities central.
Diving, sea kayaking, paragliding, canyoning and mountain biking are on offer, and a boat
trip to Kekova island's submerged Lycian ruins is a Mediterranean highlight. This being
the ancient Lycians' stomping ground, the 4th-century BC King's Tomb stands among the
fish restaurants in the pretty backstreets.

Say goodbye to the Teke peninsula in Fethiye, another great launch pad for Mediterranean
boat trips . Local destinations include Ölüdeniz , where Baba Dağ (Mt Baba) overshad-
ows the beach and lagoon; three-night gület (traditional wooden yacht) cruises are also
available. The town nestles in the southern reaches of a bay scattered with islands, which
featured in the James Bond film Skyfall . Activities here include parasailing, rafting, horse
riding, diving, nocturnal sea kayaking and ogling the ancient rock-cut tombs .
