Kars ( Click here )
The Russians occupied this distinctive city from 1878 to 1920 and built many of its grand
buildings. A slow-paced outpost in the steppe with two excellent ocakbaşıs (grill houses),
Kars is the gateway to incredible Ani , 45km east on the Armenian border. In this ancient
Silk Road entrepôt and Armenian capital, ruined churches romantically scatter a wind-
blown field. From Kars, you can fly back to İstanbul or Ankara.
