Turkish, Kurdish, Mongol, Persian and Ottoman overlords, Mardin is steeped in his-
tory with numerous ancient buildings.
1 FORTY MARTYRS CHURCH

This church dates back to the 4th century and was renamed
in the 15th century to commemorate Cappadocian martyrs, who are now remembered
in the fine carvings above the entrance.

With a small but well-
displayed collection, this superbly restored late-19th-century mansion sports carved
pillars and elegant arcades on the upper floor.
3 OLD MARDIN HOUSE
The three-arched facade of this ornately carved house is a fabulous example of
Mardin's domestic architecture.
