Göbekli Tepe
Catapulted to international fame after a National Geographic cover story in 2011, this fascinating archaeological
site is thought to be the world's first place of worship. Around 11km northeast of central Urfa, the circular array of
Neolithic megaliths at 'Pot Belly Hill' is estimated to date back to 9500 BC, around 6500 years before Stonehenge.
The stone pillars have exquisitely stylised carvings of lions, foxes and vultures.
A return taxi from Şanlıurfa is about " 25 to " 30, and the site can also be visited with Harran-Nemrut Tours ( Click
here ) , Mustafa Çaycı ( Click here ) and Nomad Tours Turkey ( Click here ).
