Detour:
Fırtına Valley
This beautiful and atmospheric river valley is a wonderful place to experience traditional Hemşin life.
Don't cross the bridge in the village of
Şenyuva
, 6km from Çamlıhemşin, but continue along the river and into
the hills for 6km to reach the spectacularly situated
Zil Castle
(Zil Kale). It's a tough but scenic walk.
The road disintegrates at the castle, but it's navigable in a normal car. Another 15km takes you to the riverside
hamlet Çat (1250m), and the start of even rougher mountain roads. A further 3.5km uphill,
Çat summer village
(1800m) is well worth the walk for the
yaylalar
(mountain pastures), overlooked by snowy peaks. Turn left after the
humpback stone bridge
