) was the setting for Abraham's (İbrahim) legendary brush
with the Assyrian king Nimrod, in which God saved the great Islamic prophet from a funer-
al pyre. Indeed, the picturesque Gölbaşı area, with its rose garden and sacred carp ponds, is
a symbolic recreation of this story. More history has been added to the pilgrimage town by
the excavation of the Neolithic stone circle, Göbekli Tepe.
