Eğirdir
0246 / POP 19,417
Enigmatic Eğirdir, surrounded by shimmering Eğirdir Gölü (Lake Eğirdir) and ringed by
steep mountains, lies hidden away from the heat and dust of Anatolia like some secret
treasure. With its Byzantine fortress, unique Seljuk structures and crumbling old quarter
ringed by beaches and fishing boats, the town makes an excellent base for the Lake Dis-
trict's sites and outdoor activities. Its family-run pensions offer inexpensive lodging and
hearty, home-cooked meals.
Eğirdir stretches for several kilometres along the lake shore. Its centre is at the base of a
promontory jutting into the lake, marked by an Atatürk statue Offline map Google map and
small otogar.
