In-Depth Information
(admission " 3; 9am-12.30pm & 1.30-7pm Tue-Sun) Housed in former Roman baths, this excel-
lent museum displays spectacular sarcophagi and small finds from Hierapolis and Afro-
disias, including friezes and Roman-era statuary from Afrodisias' famous school.
ANTIQUE POOL
(admission " 25, public pool admission " 7.50; 9am-7pm, public pool 9am-8pm) The sacred pool -
nowadays, the separate-ticket swimming pool in the Antique Pool spa's courtyard - has
submerged sections of original fluted marble columns to lounge against. The mineral-rich
water, which is more-than-balmy at 36°C, was thought to have restorative powers in an-
tiquity, and may well still do. In summer, it's busiest from 11am to 4pm.

Pamukkale's numerous pensions and small hotels offer good value. Many places have
pools (with water from the travertines or other springs).
If you have a preference, and especially in high summer, book ahead. This often scores
you a free lift from Denizli's otogar or train station.
Don't be surprised if you're blasted from your bed at 5am by the mosque's call to pray-
er.
