Boat

Bus
The otogar is on the coastal highway (Atatürk Caddesi), 3km west of the centre (

taxi). Most services are less frequent off-season, but buses generally leave hourly for
Antalya (

15, two hours) and regularly head east along the coast.
Anamur

Close to both the massive Byzantine city of Anemurium and Mamure Castle, and with a
pretty good beach, Anamur is a great place to relax. It's the centre of Turkey's banana-
growing industry, and you'll see local
muzler
(bananas; shorter and sweeter than imported
ones) on sale.
Between May and September, the beach here is one of a dozen nesting sites of the log-
gerhead turtle (
Caretta caretta
) along Turkey's Mediterranean coast (along with Fethiye
and Patara). The loggerhead (Turkish:
deniz kaplumbağası
) is a large, flat-headed turtle
coloured reddish brown on top and yellow-orange below that spends most of its life in the
water. An adult can weigh up to 200kg.
Sights
Anamur lies north of highway D400. About 2.5km southeast of the main roundabout is
İskele, a popular waterfront district with hotels and restaurants. Anemurium is 8.5km west
while Mamure Castle is 7km east.

This tremendous castle,
with crenellated walls, 39 towers and part of its original moat still intact, is the biggest
and best-preserved fortification on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. The rear sits directly
