1 WANDERING THE LANES
Antalya's old quarter ( Click here ) is a sloping nest of interwoven streets, studded with
ancient monuments, lovely small hotels, boutiques, bars and restaurants. These eventu-
ally disgorge into the exquisite little restored Roman harbour, now a modern marina
with boat trips on offer. In the 17th century, about 3000 houses were jammed into this
area within the old city walls. Today, fine examples of Ottoman architecture remain in
the maze of narrow passages, and many of the houses have been restored, allowing you
to stay in an Ottoman mansion.
2 HADRIYANÜS KAPISI
At the top of Hesapçi Sokak, the monumental Hadrian's Gate, also known as Üçkapılar
or the 'Three Gates', was built for the Roman emperor's visit to Antalya. Attalus III,
nephew of the city's founder Attalus II, ceded Attelia (as Antalya was then called) to
Rome in 133 BC. When Hadrian visited in AD 130, he entered through this triumphal
arch.

Antalya. Most impressive is the collection of Çanakkale and Kütahya ceramics in the
exhibition hall behind it, in the former Greek Orthodox church of Aya Yorgi (St Ge-
