Detour:
Dilek Peninsula
About 26km south of Kuşadası, the Dilek Peninsula juts westwards into the Aegean, almost touching Samos. West
of Güzelçamlı, Dilek National Park (Dilek Milli Parkı; www.dilekyarimadasi.com ; admission per person/
car " 4/10; 7am-7.30pm Jun-Sep, 8am-5pm Oct-May) is a mountainous reserve with walking trails, stun-
ning vistas and azure coves for swimming.
A brown sign outside the entrance points to Zeus Mağarası (the 'Cave of Zeus'), where the water's refreshingly
cold in summer and warm in winter.
After the Dilek National Park entry gate, four rounded bays with pebble beaches lie below. The road then tapers
off at a high-security military compound covering the peninsula's end.
Accessing the first cove, İçmeler Köyü (1km past the entrance), involves a steep walk down to the sandy but
somewhat dirty beach. The road above has great views from designated pullover points.
About 3km beyond İçmeler Köyü, an unpaved turn-off heads 1km downhill to Aydınlık Beach . This 800m-long
pebble-and-sand strand is backed by pines.
Dilek's third bay, Kavaklı Burun , has a sand-and-pebble surf beach. As at Aydınlık, there's a second entrance
1km further down. The final visitable beach, Karasu Köyü , is the most placid, and enjoys revelatory views of
mountainous Samos. You might even see a dolphin.
Each bay has a restaurant shack (mains " 8-25) , serving everything from steak to sea bass. In summer,
dolmuşes run from Kuşadası every 15 minutes for Dilek (third/fourth bay " 5/7, 40 minutes).
