Priene
Priene ( Click here ) was a significant port city in ancient times (between 300 and 45 BC to
be exact). The League of Ionian Cities held congresses here, and Priene was famed for
shipbuilding and sailing until its harbours silted up. Today, its ruins, including the Temple
of Athena and a 6500-seat theatre - one of the best-preserved Hellenistic theatres anywhere
- are strewn romantically across Mt Mykale.
