The former Greek settlement of Behramkale, also known as Assos köyü (village), spreads
out around the ancient temple to Athena. At the bottom of the steep hill dotted with ruins
and medieval city walls, Assos, also known as Assos liman (harbour), is a former working
harbour with a small pebble beach. Its old stone buildings and warehouses have been
transformed into hotels and fish restaurants.
On weekends and public holidays from the beginning of April to the end of August,
tourists pour in by the coach load. There are few facilities other than an ATM and phar-
macy in Behramkale.
